Welcome to Sugar Plum Lowchen
My name is Vicki Ronchette and I live in the SF Bay Area. After 24 years breeding, showing and competing with Dachshunds I decided I wanted to get involved with another breed. Alexia Rodriguez of Potrero Lowchen became a client of mine and suggested I meet her Lowchen and referred a Lowchen owner/handler to one of my classes. The interesting thing is that I had met Lowchen years earlier. As a teenager, a longtime Lowchen breeder owned a pet shop in my hometown and I met her dogs when I was about 15 years old. I came across that same breeder and her dogs years later in the competitive obedience world where she was competing with Lowchen and I was competing with my Rottweiler. I was invited to come and meet the local Lowchen owners and their dogs at an upcoming dog show. Lowchen is a rare breed and to have more than one at a show is unusual. After that single meeting I decided I wanted a Lowchen. I obtained a puppy from Potrero's first Lowchen litter and fell in love with the breed. My first Lowchen, Cannoli aka Ch. Potrero and Tapestry's Sugar Plum Fairy TKN finished her championship and is a wonderful addition to our family.
I decided early on that I wanted to breed Lowchen and get this breed into the public eye. We now have four Lowchen including our foundation female Cannoli, her two daughters Moneypenny and Merriweather and our Australian import, Jager.
In addition to being a breeder of Lowchen, I am the owner of Show Dog Prep School and I am the author of Positive Training for Show Dogs, From Shy to Showy, Ready? Set. SHOW! and the co-author of Litter Evaluations - The Planning, the Process, the Picks.
The Lowchen is a rare breed and in danger of becoming extinct. We have very few breeders in the US which is one of the reasons I chose to breed them. More people should get to know this wonderful breed. They are generally healthy, friendly, social and non-shedding. They are the best kept secret of the dog world.
Our small breeding program generally produces a litter or two a year. The breed usually has smaller litters, but we sometimes have puppies available to companion, show and sport homes.
Our companion puppies (meaning they won't be shown) are sold on a limited registration.
Our price for our puppies is $2500. We do not ship puppies unaccompanied or without having met the new owners. Therefore, any puppies going to homes outside of our immediate area will have to be picked up by their owners at either Oakland International Airport or San Francisco International Airport.
